My Face Is Swollen. What Could Be The Cause?

My Face Is Swollen. What Could Be The Cause?Face swelling involves the enlargement of the face due to the inflammation of facial tissues. When you have a swollen face, activities such as sleeping and eating can be challenging. Also, you may not have the confidence to appear in public. Face swelling can occur due to various reasons, such as:

Tooth Abscess

A cracked or chipped tooth is more susceptible to bacteria buildup. When bacteria enter the tooth through a crack, they will likely infect the pulp. The abscess may then lead to a collection of pus or swelling of gums and teeth. You may also experience a toothache or jawline swelling, making your cheeks appear swollen.

Facial Injury

A leading cause of facial swelling is injury. A fall or getting hit by an object can cause swelling. It is good to consult your dentist after a facial trauma since the damage can affect the upper or lower jaw. When you have a broken or dislocated jaw, you may experience severe pain or difficulty chewing or speaking. The dentist may perform X-rays and CT scans to check the severity of the damage. This can also help to look for any damaged facial structure or internal bleeding. Based on the findings, the dentist will develop a personalized treatment plan.

Partially Erupted Wisdom Teeth [Pericoronitis

In cases where the wisdom teeth do not have enough space to erupt, they may come through the gum partially [Pericoronitis]. This causes gum flaps to develop, creating a good area for bacteria to build up. When left untreated, infection will occur, leading to swelling of gums. This will also make your cheek swollen. When you have Pericoronitis, you may also feel pain or notice discharge around the gums. A good way to reduce swelling on your face and mouth is by visiting a dentist for infection treatment.

Facial swelling could be a sign of infection. If you notice any swelling around your cheeks, lips, and mouth, our professionals will help to find the root cause.
